Exhibit Honors the Late Mayor Robert Linn
The late Beaver Mayor
Robert P. Linn, who is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as
the nation’s longest serving mayor, was featured in a special
exhibit early this summer by the Beaver Area Historical Museum.
Through a series of photos shown in the following selections,
the exhibit highlights the life and career of the 58-year chief
executive through rare photographs, papers, campaign memorabilia
and scrapbooks that document the four phases of Mayor Linn’s
life. The exhibit traces his beginnings as a student at Beaver
Area High School, his Duquesne Light Company career, early years
as mayor and finally his record-setting accomplishments.
Among the many artifacts in the exhibit was his official
certificate of congratulations from Guinness as well as letters
of appreciation from President George W. Bush and former
Pennsylvania Gov. Dick Thornburgh.
Mayor Linn, who passed away in August 2004, was first elected to
office in 1946 and followed it up with another 14 terms. Among
his many accomplishments was the 2002 Streetscape, one of his
all-time favorites, for which the borough received the Beaver
Area Heritage Foundation’s “Harry S. Phillips Beautification
Award.”
The Guinness Book of Records formally recognized him as the
longest-serving in the United States and he kept adding to that
mark until his death at the age of 95.
Today his name adorns “Linn Square,” the southwestern most
park in Beaver and his likeness also appears on the timeline
mural at the Beaver Area Historical Museum.
His passing was noted in Time Magazine and on National Public
Radio. He was also depicted in a photo that was included in USA
Today’s annual feature, “2004: The Year in Pictures.”
Take a few moments and review the life of Mayor Linn through the following series of photos.
